About UK Finance

UK Finance is the collective voice for the banking and finance industry.

Representing around 300 member firms across the industry, we act to enhance competitiveness, support customers and facilitate innovation.

We work for and on behalf of our members to promote a safe, transparent and innovative banking and finance industry. We offer research, policy expertise, thought leadership and advocacy in support of our work. We provide a single voice for a diverse and competitive industry. Our operational activity enhances members’ own services in situations where collective industry action adds value.

UK Finance seeks to ensure that the UK is the safest and most transparent financial centre in the world – thus creating a hostile environment for criminals by working with members, law enforcement, government agencies and industry.

We have introduced new procedures between police and bank branches to prevent vulnerable people falling victim to fraud (Banking Protocol), devised and delivered Take Five – a national awareness campaign about the risks of fraud, and developed voluntary standards for payment service providers to follow when processing a claim following an APP scam.

We established the Dedicated Card and Payment Crime Unit (DCPCU), a dedicated police unit paid for by UK Finance. The DCPCU was created in response to a rapid growth in organised crime and the lack of a dedicated police investigatory capacity. The intelligence industry hub, the Financial Fraud Bureau, also provides up-to-the-minute information about fraudulent attacks on financial institutions.

Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve fallen for a scam and report it to Action Fraud.
