Protect Your Payments

Our ‘Protect Your Payments’ campaign is designed to help businesses who accept card payments defend themselves against fraud and scams.

Debit and credit cards are a fast, convenient and secure way to make and receive payments.

Criminals do however attempt to target businesses, so it is important to take steps to stay safe.

Through a short animation and a clear, easy-to-follow advice guide, we’re highlighting the everyday steps merchants can take to keep card machines, online payments and customer data secure.

From spotting suspicious behaviour and avoiding common scams to understanding safer payment practices, the campaign supports businesses of all sizes to stay alert, protect their customers, and safeguard their income when accepting card payments.

Take Five to Stop Fraud
Criminals are experts at impersonating people, organisations and the police. They spend hours researching you for their scams, hoping you’ll let your guard down for just a moment. Stop and think. It could protect you and your money.
STOP
Take a moment to stop and think before parting with your money or information. It could keep you safe.
CHALLENGE
Ask yourself, could it be fake? It’s ok to reject, refuse or ignore any requests. Only criminals will try to rush or panic you.
PROTECT
Contact your bank immediately if you think you’ve been scammed and tell the Police at reportfraud.police.uk or on 0300 123 2040.
